One example of proper hand hygiene is the use of instant hand sanitizer. Purell instant hand sanitizer is a type of hand sanitizer that is composed of ethyl alcohol. It is said to kill 99.99% of most common bacteria and germs which could be grounds for health problems as slight as 15 seconds. Alcohol based hand sanitizers such as Purell has alcohol which is said to be a natural antiseptic. Alcohol is widely used in medical institutions for more than 100 years not just because of the reason that it kills germs and bacteria in seconds but because it leaves no residue on the skin as well. Alcohol is also known to destroy germs physically and kills toxic bacteria such as E. coli, salmonella, shigella, streptococcus and staphylococcus. However, no proof has been made that it kills viruses as well.
Using alcohol based hand sanitizers lessens illness especially in places where germs are widely spread such as in hospitals, food institutions, bus stations, restaurants and schools. CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have formulated regulation for hospitals, schools, home and work to use alcohol or any alcohol based products to obstruct the multiplication of germs. Alcohol eradicates both pathogenic or disease causing microorganisms and resident bacterial flora though it doesn’t cause any illness. According to contemporary researchers, alcohol based hand sanitizers are not posing any risk of removing good germs that are present on the skin naturally. After moving the germs to the area where fewer are present, the body urgently replaces the good germs found on the hands. Also, alcohol removes the skin of the outer layer which gives negative effects on impediment function of the skin. Aside from ethyl alcohol, hand sanitizers such as Purell also contain glycerin, isopropyl alcohol, fragrance, carbomer, aminomethyl propanol, isopropyl myristate, propylene glycol and tocopheryl acetate.

The best way to prevent illness at home and at work is by using hand sanitizers. These sanitizers exterminate viruses and bacteria swiftly. During a super busy and hectic day, hand washing is very time consuming. Instant hand sanitizer is the best alternative for this. It could be used without adding water such as the alcohol based hand sanitizer and if used accurately, it will not desiccate your skin. Hand sanitizers may work better compared to hand washing because germs and bacteria maybe breed in bathroom sink or kitchen sink where soap or other liquid used for hand washing are placed. In addition to that, the circulation of bacteria and germs in sink faucets is very quick and easy because it is handled by different people every now and then. Correct hand washing method compels a time span for antibacterial soap to stay on the skin but with the use of hand sanitizers, you just need three simple and swift method, apply to hands, rub in and let it go to work. These include alcohol such as isopropanol, ethanol and others and other compounds like quats or benzalkonium chloride. Quats increases the antimicrobial value of the product however on some people it may produce allergic reactions. There is 200 parts per million of quats in a well recognized hand sanitizer but even if utilized myriad of times every day, its meditation will not become sticky. The sticky effect is because of the sanitizing gel that leaves a sticky filtrate because of the gel. The gel remains on the hands until such time it will be removed using soap and water. On the other hand, evaporation will not take place in 10-15 seconds if the right consumption of alcohol rub hand sanitizer is utilized. In 1984, Macintosh discovered that applying 0.3 milliliters of alcohol rub to hands is also inefficient similar to plain hand washing using soap and water alone. Substantially, it will be effective if the volume is increased to 0.5 milliliters. Using alcohol hand rub is not sufficient in areas with protein waste or high lipids like food processing area.
